Accessible Child & Youth Leadership Session 3: National Lifeguard Pool Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities is committed to ensuring kids in need have equal access to sport and recreation. The City of Peterborough has been selected as recipient of a grant from Jumpstart that will help eligible families cover the costs of registration and equipment needed for the Bronze Medallion Program. Description: Participants will further develop the fundamental values, judgment, knowledge, skills and fitness required by lifeguards. The National Lifeguard course emphasizes the lifeguarding skills, principles and practices, and the decision-making processes that will assist the lifeguard to provide effective safety supervision in swimming pool environments. Activities include learning lifeguarding theory & practice, pool facility analysis, rescue aid proficiency, entries & removals, rescue drill, underwater swim – 15m, object recovery, sprint challenge, endurance challenge – Swim 400m under 10 minutes, lifeguard communication, positioning & rotation, scanning & observation, prevention & intervention, specialized techniques, missing people procedure, management of distressed or drowning victim, management of spinal injured victims, management of injured victim, single lifeguard situations and team lifeguard situations.
